Business Planning

owning your own medical practice

A business plan is essential for running a successful business. It will provide you with the control you need to grow, wind-down, or generally change the direction of the business. You may also find that your financier/investors wont do business with you without one.

The HPC Business Plan consists of the following elements:

Business Identity

Considers issues relating to your business identity such as:
  • business name
  • location
  • space needs
  • reasons for establishing your own business
  • business aims
  • how your relevant experience will assist with running your business.

Marketing Plan

This plan looks at the four P's of marketing:

Product: Consideration is given to the strengths of your particular products and services and identification of your unique selling proposition is addressed.

Promotion: Your target market, customer needs, various methods of marketing, attracting and retaining clientele is considered.

Placement: Non-price competition issues such as the benefits of your business location and the "vibe" of your practice are assessed.

Price: Development of your pricing schedule is considered.

Management Plan

Staff management is discussed along with various requirements relating to policies & procedures and organisation of the workplace.

Contingency Plan

Various problem scenarios relating to the practice are considered and ways in which to mitigate the risk are identified.

Financial Plan

A feasibility study is undertaken in relation to start up costs for the business; income and expenses are projected in order to obtain a feel for the demands of the business to break even and, ultimately, make a profit.

Benchmarking guides are considered to assist with financial projections and basic cash flow, profit & loss, and balance sheet statement templates are provided for use within the business.

The HPC business plan

The HPC Business Plan provides an analysis of the financial feasibility of the business. Once estimated figures have been established, other parts of the plan consider the way in which to control those figures and other non-financial aspects of the practice.

"We knew that setting up a surgery from scratch would be extremely challenging, and we acquired the services of HPC from the onset. HPC sat down with us to develop a business plan; this provided a framework for the business, and, more importantly, gave us an opportunity to assess its viability. HPC has been looking after every stage of the development since , from general planning to the fine detail. We still had full control of the project, but we could leave the hard work to HPC. We would not have been able to cover all the areas by ourselves, and certainly would not have been able to continue to work as full-time doctors."
